About Risk Management

The Montgomery County Risk Management Department works to protect County employees, assets, and operations from the financial and operational impacts of unexpected loss. Through safety programs, risk assessment, and insurance management, the department helps reduce hazards, prevent accidents, and ensure the County can continue providing essential public services.

Risk Management partners with County departments to identify potential risks, implement preventative measures, and manage incidents when they occur. By promoting safe work practices and responsible risk management strategies, the department helps safeguard County resources and support a safe working environment for employees and the community.

Our Mission

The mission of the Risk Management Department is to identify, evaluate, and manage risks that may affect County operations while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public resources.

Risk Management Objectives

The Risk Management Department works to:

• Promote safety awareness across all County departments
• Reduce workplace injuries, property damage, and financial loss
• Identify and control hazards in County facilities, equipment, and operations
• Provide training, guidance, and safety resources for employees and departments
• Secure and manage insurance coverage to help offset unavoidable losses
• Protect County assets while supporting uninterrupted public service

Risk Management Services

The Risk Management Department provides a variety of services to support County departments and employees, including:

Insurance Administration – Managing the County’s insurance coverage and policies

Claims Management – Coordinating and administering claims involving property damage, liability, and other covered losses

Safety Programs – Developing and promoting safety initiatives to reduce workplace accidents

Risk Assessment – Identifying potential hazards within County operations and recommending preventative measures

Safety Inspections – Conducting periodic inspections of County facilities, vehicles, and equipment

Safety Training and Resources – Providing departments with tools and guidance to maintain safe work environments

Support for County Departments

Risk Management works closely with County departments to help them operate safely and effectively. Support services include:
